| Stand Up To Cancer Diane Sawyer to Join Fellow Network Anchors for National Fundraising Event By LAURA ZACCARO May 19, 2010 It is a disease that kills 1,500 Americans every day and more than half a million every year – cancer. "World News" anchor joins fellow network anchors for cancer fundraising event. But there is something we can do about it. In a combined effort, ABC, CBS and NBC will air "Stand Up To Cancer," a star-studded fundraising event on September 10. "World News" anchor Diane Sawyer will host with fellow evening news anchors Katie Couric and Brian Williams. The hour-long telecast will feature celebrities, athletes, musical performances and inspirational stories from survivors. The goal of "Stand Up To Cancer," also known as "SU2C," is to fund groundbreaking research in order to get new therapies and new hope to patients as quickly as possible. CLICK HERE to find out how you can help. There are more than 11.4 million cancer survivors in the Unites States today and since its launch in May 2008 "SU2C" has raised more than $100 million to find cures. Nearly $90 million of those funds have been channeled into research. The organization funds "dream teams" of clinicians pushing the envelope of cancer research. "We've delivered on the promise of a new blood test for cancer. In a way that is going to actually be informative not only for pancreatic cancer but other cancers like leukemia and brain cancer. And that is exciting," "SU2C" Pancreatic Dream Team Leader Dr. Craig Thompson, from the University of Pennsylvania, said. On a "SU2C" video. "By working together new positive things happen that are really exciting and driving us forward as a team."
"Constellation" One way to support "SU2C" is to launch a star on the organization's "Constellation," a place to honor those whose lives have been touched by cancer – for someone lost to the disease, who is fighting it or is now cancer-free. Donations can be as little as a dollar. CLICK HERE to find out more.

| Thanks for the info mim, sounds like they are doing some great work. We have heard about some promising breakthroughs lately, maybe they can actually find a cure. That is my prayer. I am looking forward to reading through the website sometime when I'm not supposed to be working. Their acronym 'SU2C' reminded me of my own opinion CANCER SUCKS!! When I read this part, I think is there anyone who hasn't been touched by cancer in some way? | Quote: | "Constellation" One way to support "SU2C" is to launch a star on the organization's "Constellation," a place to honor those whose lives have been touched by cancer – for someone lost to the disease, who is fighting it or is now cancer-free. | I have a great deal of trouble reading or dealing with anything to do with cancer. I've had many friends and relatives die from this wretched disease. My mother died from ovarian cancer in 1985 and my world has never been the same. Thanks for bringing this article here, Mim. The Constellation Remembrance is beautiful. I truly think my mom would love the idea. Mimsy and BarbaraAnn |

| I know this is kind of not good subject but what I think is great is that buying a star for someone thing.when my husband died I would have treasured getting a card saying a donation had been made and a star named in his honor. and then giving someone a card and a star named in their honor when they have gone into remission or hit that big 5 yr cancer free mark. It struck me as wonderful. and so many times you see "in leui of flowers make donation to fav charity. or even people have 50yr aniversarys and say No presents and I thought wow, just name star in their honor. I don't know why this star thing spoke to me. maybe I am just "starstruck" well I do, our song was "Keeper of the Stars" |

| "Keeper of the Stars", mim, I can see why this Constellation project speaks to you; sounds like the connection was meant to be. I have to agree it does sound like a great idea. If I had known about it (if it was around then) I could have requested that for memorial donations. I haven't looked at either of the websites referenced in the article yet. I keep telling myself that if I just spend time on AABB at work its OK, but I can't be spending time browsing through other websites, delusional, I know. So that will have to wait until I have the opportunity, maybe tomorrow. I usually try not to post during work either and I have already posted several times today. OT: We just had red velvet cake for a co-worker's BD celebration, it is his favorite kind of cake, and several of us told him about Steel Magnolias. He also got engaged recently so of course he needst to have that for his groom's cake. I could go post this in Ronnie's thread, but I'll just post here. |

I am going to check into this naming star thing. for lots of different occasions that I don't know what to give. |

Me too, Frannie and quite honestly it does put me into a little bit of a panic when I read about it or hear about another friend who is diagnosed. But at the same time it makes me mad and frustrated about it; although I know a lot of progress has been made, we need to make sure that we keep the pressure on against this disease. And I realize I haven't really done as much as I can either.
Big Hug to you in the loss of your mother, me too Frannie. It was a long time ago when I was a child, but it really is a deep loss. I also lost my father and husband to cancer and lots of others too. So for me the cycle of losing a parent is repeating itself for my children.
I need to stop with the poor me now, though. As I said above I can not imagine that there is anyone who hasn't been touched by cancer, so we all have similar stories and heartaches. Thanks for sharing yours and indulging mine. |
I love you, BarbaraAnn and I'm so sorry for all that cancer has taken from you. I normally steer clear of cancer news or threads because I can't bear to remember...or, to know that others are so affected. I'm glad I decided to read this thread. Keeping myself in an insular state hinders relationships with those who might need me or I them.
Mims, thanks for bringing all of us together! |

| This is pretty exciting news. Unfortunately it doesn't help with leukemia but it holds out hope for many other cancers. Cancer Killing Virus _________________ "People can be taught to hate and people can be taught to spell but apparently it's one or the other." Caprice Crane
