| Does anyone else do Holiday Baking?
One of the reasons that I am so excited to be home at least for a little while is that I get to have an oven and make cookies and goodies to eat.
I thought if y'all wanted we could exchange some of our favorite recipes for our favorite goodies for this time a year...I tend to go WAY overboard making stuff and am always looking for new recipes
Here are a few of the things I have already made this year
Reindeer Cookies
1 package (17-1/2 oz) peanut butter cookie mix 1/3 cup vegetable oil 1 egg 60 miniature pretzel twists 60 semisweet chocolate chips 30 red-hot candies
In a mixing bowl, combine dry cookie mix, oil and egg. Beat until well mixed.
Shape into a 7-1/2 inch roll; wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
Unwrap and cut into 1/4-inch slices. Place 2-inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Using thumb and forefingers, make a slight indention one-third of the way down the sides of each slice. Press in pretzels for antlers, chocolate chips for eyes and a red-hot for the nose.
Bake at 350 for 9-11 minutes or until light brown. Remove to wire racks to cool.
^^Those ones were REAL fun to make with Skye this year and they turned out cute
Candy Cane Cookies
1/2 cup butter (no substitutes), softened 1/2 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup confectioners sugar 1/2 cup milk 1 egg 1 teaspoon peppermint extract 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 3-1/2 cups all purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon salt Red and Green food coloring
In a bowl, cream butter, shortening and sugars.
Beat in milk, egg and extracts.
Gradually add flour and salt.
Set aside half of the dough. Divide remaining dough in half; add greed food coloring to one and red food coloring to the other. Wrap dough separately in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until easy to handle.
Roll 1/2 teaspoons of each color of dough into 3-inch ropes.
Place each green rope next to a white rope; press together gently and twist. Repeat with red ropes and remaining white ropes.
Place 2-inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Curve one end, forming a cane.
Bake at 350 for 11-13 minutes or until set. Cool for 2 minutes; carefully move to wire racks.
EggNog Cookies
1 cup Butter, Room Temp 1 cup Sugar 1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg or Cinnamon 1 cup Eggnog 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda 4 cup Flour
Cream the butter and sugar together, then add Nutmeg/Cinnamon, EggNog and Baking Soda until well blended. Add Flour 1/2 cup at a time. Drop by spoonfuls on Cookie Sheet (I always sprinkle with Cinnamon-Sugar mixture before baking) About 10 minutes at 375 |

| I made Hello Dollies, Snowball cookies, Rolo cookies, Buttertart Squares and date squares on Saturday. (I think I posted the recipes here last Christmas.) My two sisters made their favourites too and then we split them all up three ways. (My DH has been raiding the freezer ever since - I think I need a lock!) _________________ "People can be taught to hate and people can be taught to spell but apparently it's one or the other." | I love holiday baking and cooking, checking to see what I can try new. I do have a question. I'm looking for a recipe, its a dessert that you make with angel food cake. I know you break the cake into peices, also has crushed pineapple in it. Maybe dream whip. Seems like it was sort of pink once done. Not sure about that, been a long time since I had it. I know after its done you put it in the refrig. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and can give me the recipe for it? I keep thinking its called some kind of dream cake, but wouldn't swear to that...HELP. would really appreciate it if anyone has a clue to what i"m talking about..lol |

| Katy ....... I've used this recipe before. It doesn't have the pineapple in it but the method for making the angel food cake/dream whip trifle will probably work with varied ingredients.
Angel Food Cake Trifle
1 cooked angel food cake 3 lg. pkgs. chocolate pudding (Not instant, make day before) 2 lg. containers of Cool Whip, thawed 6 lg. Crispy Crunch bars, broken into small pieces Kahlua (coffe flavoured liqueur)
Take 1/2 of the cake and break it into cubes (squares). Place these pieces in bottom of glass bowl or trifle dish. Sprinkle pieces with some Kahlua. Spread 1/2 of the pudding on top. Spread 1/2 of the Cool Whip on top. Spread 1/2 of the crushed chocolate bars on top. Repeat process of layering with cake, Kahlua, pudding, Cool Whip and chocolate bars. Refrigerate for a few hours. _________________ "People can be taught to hate and people can be taught to spell but apparently it's one or the other." Caprice Crane

| I found this recipe on-line. It sounds more like what you described Katy.
Angel Food Cake Pineapple Trifle
20 oz can crushed pineapple in juice, undrained 1 package vanilla pudding mix 1 container of Cool Whip 1 Angel Food Cake Fresh strawberries (or raspberries, blackberries etc.) In a large bowl, mix the crushed pineapple (with all its juice) and the package of the dry pudding mix. Then add half of the container of Cool Whip to the mix. To assemble the dessert, cut your angel food cake into three horizontal layers. Using a large glass bowl or trifle bowl, start with a layer of the angel food cake. Then slather about one-third of the pineapple mixture on top and sprinkle with some fresh, cut strawberries. Repeat two more times, ending with strawberries on top. Finish it off by topping it with the remaining half of the Cool Whip and some fresh strawberries. Refrigerate for a few hours. _________________ "People can be taught to hate and people can be taught to spell but apparently it's one or the other." Caprice Crane

awww Mappy that should be lots of fun and very interesting. I remember when my kids were younger and we made cookies together, we still do sometimes but the first time is always the one a person remembers in graphic detail... I'm enjoying going over these recipes, lots of good ones I need to try.. |

| I've really enjoyed reading all of these threads this season on different recipes and new ways to prepare a turkey. The baking recipes all sounded so good, I copied a lot of them for furture try outs. I am always so excited when the holiday season starts and just can't wait to get at it. Really gung ho. Now its over, have all the decorations down and have eaten turkey, ham and all the fixings, I'm ready for a few weeks of take out and skillet meals, bakeables and even hamburger helper. Time now for a little R and R. |
