Tragic loss for the whole auto racing community. I watched him win both Indianappolis 500's. He will be remembered for years to come... and when they hit the pavement next year the cars they will all be driving will be something that Wheldon himself had input on. Thoughts are definitely with his family and 2 small children.

Very bad crash... such a loss for the sport. Dan was a very well liked and respected driver in the IRL.

I watched a video clip from an in car camera in Danica Patricks' car and watched as his car literally flew over hers....she never was involved in the crashed....(I am a huge Danica fan...)

I still don't know what actually killed Dan Wheldon, Fire? Compression? Combo? One thing I did notice is that it wasn't a car hitting a barrier, it was the interaction of the cars themselves. I have never been a supporter of openwheel racing. Its just crazy to me...

I definitely prefer stock car racing. Not because its safer or less dangerous, but I find comfort in the fact that barriers are more dangerous than the cars themselves.

My thoughts and prayers are with the racing community....such a horrific event....ARGH.

I have to applaud the sporting community as whol for coming together for this family. football players, all different racers, lance armstrong, patrick dempsey and more all donating items that are being auctioned on EBAY will all money going to the Wheldon Family Trust Fund. It's an amazing thing thing to see people come together like this in a time of loss. Last I checked today the helmet Jimmie Johnson wore Sunday was up to $30,000!
