The fire between Bastrop and Paige in Texas has burned approximately 600 homes and 30,000 acres, according to the Texas Forest Service. The fire has set a record for the highest number of homes lost in a single fire in Texas history.

The west flank of the fire is threatening Bastrop and is within two miles of the city limits. The strong winds blowing out of tropical storm Lee have abated somewhat, but the predicted 11 mph north-northeast winds and a relative humidity of 14% today will continue to challenge firefighters charged with protecting the town of Bastrop.

It's terrible. So many homes lost. Not too close to Houston yet but I know people who might be affected. Luckily the wind has died down.

these fires are everywhere!! There is one burning less than 20 miles from where I live so we have smoke all over town in various spots. It's not too thick but it's enough to be annoying to the eyes, nose, and chest. We need so much rain to contain these things.

I saw this on GMA this morning, so sad. giggles, stay safe. I wish I could send you some of our rain. We're getting another 4", something this state does not need any more of.

On the news tonight they told the story of a fire in Kaufman, TX, about an adult son living with his elderly parents, and his father died in the fire. Both parents were in poor health, and the son was only able to save his mother, who had an oxygen tank. I cried! I pray for that family, and hope I am never, ever in a situation where I have to choose to save one loved one over another.

That is so sad. I heard on the news earlier that a mother and her 18 month old child were found in their burned trailer.

I hope no more lives are lost.
