from The Weather Channel www.weather.com

Tropical Depression Twelve has formed in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean, and has the looks of a classic "Cape Verde" storm.

Once the depression strengthens into a tropical storm later today it would be given the name Katia, the new "K" storm name in the rotation replacing the retired 2005 Hurricane Katrina. It is expected to strengthen to hurricane status later this week.

Some of the most notorious hurricanes to strike the United States first began as a Cape Verde tropical disturbance.

2010's Hurricane Earl and Hurricane Igor, 2008's Hurricane Ike and 1999's Hurricane Floyd were all Cape Verde storms just to name a few.

I know for most Hurricane Irene is a thing of the past but for us here in New Jersey, it's aftermath is still going strong. Evacuations are going on as I type, so many Northern town are under water. All of the rivers have overflowed, one of the states largest Malls is under water. Two of our major highways have collapsed in spots. Homes have blown up and hundreds of thousands of people are still without power until at least September.

Here is a video of some of the devastation that people here are living through. Please keep these people in your thoughts and prayers. I'm besides myself, this is just so heartbreaking.
